(ABOUT)

A through-line between vision, narrative and practice.

Axel is a design studio working at the intersection of strategy, story and place. We partner with philanthropies, governments,  cultural institutions, and the developers, designers, and well-being facilitators building alongside them - crafting the cultural infrastructure that shapes how communities see themselves and what comes next.

An axle holds the center. An axel launches forward. Our work does both. In a hub-and-spokes model, we position a core team of strategists and researchers to anchor each engagement. The Spokes, a curated network of specialist practices, surround it, providing partners with specific tools and broader perspectives.

We bring together the right expertise at the right moment—moving initiatives from imagination to execution. As the connective hub, we hold coherence across disciplines—ensuring work is creative, responsive, and community-informed.

Vision requires structure. Structure requires alignment. Axel holds the center.

Three Intersection Practices:

Structural Alignment
We design the strategies, operating models, and governance that turn vision into institutional behavior.
Civic Experience Design
We share the places, platforms, and convenings where civic life happens - partnering with architects, developers, service and product designers, civic designers, and corporate innovators to craft the through-line of built and public space.
Narrative + Cultural Strategy
We design the strategies, operating models, and governance that turn vision into institutional behavior.
