The Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) lacked a clear narrative to illustrate how investments in public health infrastructure evolve and impact health outcomes. While the grant's flexibility allowed varied implementations, participants struggled to measure and communicate its progress without a cohesive story that highlighted the sustainability and long-term impact of these investments.
(approach)
We facilitated design thinking workshops to co-create a strategy that framed the grant’s objectives, aligning them with CDC strategic priorities. These workshops focused on developing a narrative that captured stories from multiple levels—departmental, jurisdictional, and individual perspectives—to show the tangible impact of PHIG investments on public health.
(RESULTS)
The project resulted in refined evaluation measures and actionable recommendations for fostering collaboration and ensuring PHIG investments align with broader public health goals. Participants were equipped with a clear narrative strategy to illustrate progress, sustainability, and the foundational impact of public health infrastructure on long-term health outcomes.
